↘ artist statement

i am a visual artist working mostly in the field of photography.
i grew up in a small village at the edge of the thuringian forest in eastern germany.
this landscape, both idyllic and fractured- shaped my perspective, serving as a point of origin and critical reflection. in my works i am often blurring the lines between documentation and introspection. my themes are often centered around the terms home, belonging, memories, imaginary constructs, the environment and identity.
my aesthetic language is quiet, searching, fragmentary - it reflects an attitude that questions more than it claims. I work with both digital and analog media.

↗ bewahren people keep things for a variety of reasons. they often feel the need to secure material resources in order to protect themselves from uncertainty and change.
the starting point for my observation here is the cellar. as soon as I enter, i notice hundreds of preserving jars stored on large shelves that reach up to the ceiling. they contain fruit and vegetables grown on the farm. the abundance of past harvests lies here, in this cool room protected from the light. so much that it can't all be used up. the jars in the back rows are covered in a thick layer of dust. everything that is no longer good for consumption ends up serving as a meal for the chickens. other objects are also stored here. containers of all kinds, tiles left over from a previous building project, a handcart for children, plants for the winter. and outside the cellar? things are stored here too. pipes, buckets, plant tubs and even an old car from the former gdr. to an uninvolved observer, this may give the impression of disorder, but in this complex ecosystem there is hardly any object that is ultimately declared garbage.
